As a former elementary school librarian, I think children will enjoy this light-hearted, tender story told by a young beagle pup named Duke. The story line is clear and very well-written. The author uses vivid tactile-kinesthetic imagery that helps pull the reader in. Deeper messages are there that children can relate to - issues such as separation from family and familiar surroundings, adoption, learning to trust others, and the advantages of having a positive attitude.The upbeat, interesting, and poignant pictures help the reader to connect with Duke and to want to read the sequels! Parents, teachers and counselors can use the story as well as the pictures to teach higher level thinking skills, to introduce new vocabulary, to teach interpreting body language, for character building, and for art projects. Children could springboard from the story to write their own stories about their real or imaginary pets with either photos or their own artwork. For higher level thinking skills, this storyline would work beautifully with the character building skills in the book, "The Five Languages of Love" by Gary D. Chapman.
I enjoyed the story and caught myself smiling at Duke's adventures. As some children would be, I was curious why the dog's owners chose to name him Duke. I purchased the Kindle version as the paperback isn't available yet. I look forward to seeing this book in hard copy - there is something about the feel of a good book, and besides, kids would love seeing Duke looking over them as they get tucked in at night! [note: I met the author once.]

Love book.......fun story.....mike
This was a very cute book with beautiful pictures. I love the way the author told the story through the eyes of the dog. All 4 of my children ages 2,8,10, and 13 loved it, and so did I. I would recommend to anyone especially dog lovers.
This book is absolutely adorable! It's told from the point of view of a puppy going to his new home. It made me wonder what my dogs really thought as I brought them home for the first time. What a great book to share with your children any time, but especially when you are getting ready to welcome a new fur-baby to your home. Cheers to the author who must be a wonderful beagle mommy!
